Government has initiated policies to ensure that the study of Arabic among students was enriched at the Senior High School next year, the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah has hinted.
He said this will ensure that Arabic will be examinable same as English Language.
He gave the hint when he interacted with the Muslim Community at Nsawam Zongo in the Eastern during a campaign tour.
He said that several policies and interventions will be introduced by the government in the NDC’s next term in order to enrich the study of Arabic among students.
“President Mahama has agreed that, from 2017, Senior High School students will study Arabic which will be examinable like the English Language and will later be introduced at the basic level in 2018. The good news is that, for the first time, we have a Teacher Training College in Wenchi that will train teachers in Arabic and to be posted to other basic schools after completion”.
He further stated, under the Islamic Education Unit, there will be an Islamic Junior High School and Islamic Technical Institution that will train Graduates to be employed in other Arabic countries with the certificates they will acquire.
Mr Debrah is in the Eastern Region on a five-day visit to explain to the people what the government could do for them. He is accompanied by Mr Ato Sarpong, the Deputy Minister of Communication; Madam Faustina Nelson, Koku Anyidoho, Ludwig Hlodze and Miss Emelia Arthur, all leading members of the NDC.
The NDC has declared an “Agenda 50-50 per cent” in the Eastern Region where it has targeted to share the popular votes with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
