Two people have reportedly died after a gun battle ensued between a resident and suspected armed robbers in Tinga, a small mining community in Bole in the Northern region.

A pregnant woman who was hit by a stray bullet and sustained serious injuries has also been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Details of Wednesday’s incident are still sketchy as the police in an interview with Starr News said they were en route to the scene.

District Police crime officer ASP Dartey said police personnel have been deployed to the area to restore order.

An eye witness who spoke to a local radio station said the armed men fired sporadically at their targets but a store keeper also returned fire killing two of the suspected thieves.

This is the second robbery attempt in the community in a week at Tinga. The first attempt happened a couple of days ago.

The community is currently in a state of fear and are profusely calling on the District security apparatus to speed up measures in beefing up security to the area.
