The newly proposed Western-North region will face a referendum during the 2018 district assembly elections, President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo has hinted.

“I committed myself and my government to the creation of a new region out of this vast region which, for the time being, we are calling the Western-North. That commitment is high on the list of priorities of our government.

“By the time of the next district assembly elections in 2018, all the constitutional and legal procedures would have taken place and the referendum that the constitution calls for is going to take place together with that exercise,” Nana Addo told chiefs in the Western region when he met them Tuesday as part of his  thank you tour of the country.

The NPP promised to carve the new region out of the oil-rich enclave during  2016 campaigning.

He, among many other things, promised to establish a factory in every district in the country.

“..pledges of one district one factory is going to happen live, modernisation of the Takoradi Harbour is going to be done, Construction of an Accident and Emergency Centre in Takoradi is on plan ..” he said.
