Ghana’s group opponents Mali suffered a 2-1 defeat against Burkina Faso in a friendly in preparation for 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
Jonathan Zongo opened the scoring for Burkina Faso few minutes ahead of the break before Bertrand Traoré doubled their lead 12 minutes into the second half.
Mustapha Yatabaré reduced the deficit for Mali in the 68th minute. Both sides failed to add more goals as the game ended in a 2-1 victory for Burkina Faso.
The Eagles were drawn in Group D alongside Ghana, Uganda and Egypt. They will kick-off their campaign against the Pharaohs on Jan. 17 before facing Ghana and Uganda, respectively.
Mali will face Algeria on Tuesday in their final warm-up ahead of kicking off the tournament, which is set to take place in Gabon between Jan. 14 and Feb. 5.
On Friday, Ghana’s other opponents Uganda claimed a 1-0 victory over Slovenia two days after losing 2-0 against Tunisia.
