President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo is to settle on MP-elect of Evalue Jomoro-Gwira constituency in the Western region, Catherine Afeku as Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
She will be taking over from outgoing Tourism Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.
Afeku was MP from 2009 to 2012, but lost the 2012 elections until her re-election in the December 2016 polls.
Meanwhile, Hajia Alima Mahama is another woman returning as minister for Local Government and Rural Development, sources close to the president-elect have revealed to Starrfmonline.com.
Hajia Mahama, who is the Member of Parliament-elect for the Nalerigu-Gambaga Constituency in the Northern region, was a Minister of Women and Children Affairs under the erstwhile Kufuor administration between 2005 and 2009.
She is a lawyer born on November 17, 1957 in Walewale in the Northern region.
Nana Addo’s other appointments:
Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng – Environment Science and Technology
Alan Kyerematen – Trade Ministery
Isaac Asiamah – Sports Ministry
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto – Food and Agriculture Ministry
Chief of Staff: Frema Opare
During his thank you trip to the North, Nana Addo hinted Hajia Mahama will play an integral role in his government.
“The people of Nalerigu, not only voted for me, but, also voted for their daughter, Hajia Alima Mahama, to represent them in parliament. It is a very good choice, and I want you, Nayiri, to know that she’s going to be a part of the Akufo-Addo government from 2017. So you have a double burden,” he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo will be sworn-in January 7, 2017 after defeating incumbent John Mahama with a difference of 1.5 million votes.
