New Patriotic Party firebrand Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has berated President Nana Akufo-Addo for appointing Dominic Nitiwul as Defense Minister.

The former army captain believes the 39-year-old legislator with 11 years of experience in legislative work is too young to represent the military at the Executive level.

“I believe a more senior person [should have been put there]. I know the military well,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe remarked.

Mr. Nitiwul is among the eight ministerial nominees who have been cleared by the Appointments Committee and are expected to be approved by Parliament Thursday.

According to the former Greater Accra regional chairman of the ruling party, the military will feel more “comfortable” with a high-ranking person.

He opined: “The military have the way they behave. They will be comfortable with a very senior figure.”

However, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe admitted that “I really don’t know him [Nitiwul]. I know him as a young party man.”

That notwithstanding, he advised Nitiwul to be respectful.

“You are going to deal with people who are very straight forward. What they dislike is arrogance. The moment you display it that will be the end of you. I will advise him to be polite and calm,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe told Accra-based Joy FM.
