Hugh Masekela

Renowned South African trumpeter, composer and singer, Hugh Ramopolo Masekela, has said that the secret to Africa’s unity is teaching the younger ones their history in school.

“We are learning the right things for dealing with the outside world but we are not learning about our culture and heritage,” Hugh said in an interview on Eezy FM.

He added: “We have been scattered as a society for centuries now. And the biggest fear of the western industrial complex is witnessing us come together admitting that we are the same people.”

He noted Africans are more involved in “trying to get away from who we are. It is like we don’t want to be Africans.”
