A 16-year-old form one student of the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanass) in Koforidua, Desmond Amoako, has died after a tree accidentally fell on him Saturday.

Seven other students suffered various degrees of injuries in the accident.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the St Joseph Hospital morgue,  while the injured have been treated and discharged .

Starr News’ Eastern regional Correspondent Kojo Ansah reports that the students got trapped when the tree on the compound suddenly fell on them.

It is not clear what the students were doing under the tree at the time,  but information gathered indicates that the students had closed from Prep and were wandering about on campus when the incident occurred.

The deceased suffered severe head injury while  the other students were hurt by the branches of the tree in an attempt to flee to safety.

Amoako was pronounced dead a few hours after he was rushed to the hospital.

Confirming the incident to Starr News, the Eastern regional Public Relations officer of the Ghana Education Service , Emmanuel Asiedu Acheampong said parents of the deceased and victims have been officially informed through a delegation,  and are expected to be in the school on Monday for a meeting with management.

“In the evening the boy got trapped so the number of students who were affected were seven but some were hit by branches and stuff like that; some of them were discharged in the morning, it was left with two but they were discharged in the afternoon but this other boy , Desmond Amoako unfortunately passed on yester night, ” he said.

He added “we have informed the parents of the deceased and victims and we are expecting them to come around if not this evening tomorrow morning”.
