A group calling itself ‘Good Governance Advocacy’ has petitioned the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to probe the bribery scandal that has rocked Parliament’s appointment committee.
Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, was accused of attempting to induce some Minority members on Parliament’s Appointments Committee with GHc 3,000 each so his appointment was approved.
The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, has constituted a five-member in-house committee to investigate the allegation after a petition from three members from the minority.
But the Executive Secretary for Good Governance Advocacy, Nana Kusi-Poku Listowel believes Parliament will be bias if it is left alone to investigate the matter.
Mr. Kusi-Poku has also criticised the Legislature for rushing through the Boakye Agyarko’s approval, and the Executive too for accepting same when a bribery allegation was hanging over the minister.
He believes the committee investigating the matter should have at least completed its work before Mr. Agyarko’s was approved.
