There is growing tension in the Nkwanta South District of the Volta region over the selection of a new District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.
The NPP Chairman for the Nkwanta South Constituency, Larry Yaw Samuel is being accused of fronting for his favourite candidate to get the DCE position contrary to a consensus they had before the December elections.
Elias Olonboaso addressing a press conference and speaking on behalf of the Elders of Akyode said there was a consensus that the position of the DCE be reserved for the people of Akyode.
He said based on this, the people of Akyode rallied behind Cephas Kujoe Edusei as the NPP Parliamentary candidate.
He noted that after the elections the constituency Chairman and some executives in the constituency have begun lobbying for Mr. Edusei who lost last year’s election.
According to Mr. Olonboaso, Secretary of the elders of the Akyode, the Akyode tribe has remained loyal to the NPP in the constituency over the years and they would not sit down for the Constituency chairman to impose a DCE on them.
The elders of Akyode are therefore calling on the NPP in the Volta region and at the National level to intervene in the matter or risk losing many supporters in the area.
