Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has declared that he will never coach cross-town rivals Real Madrid.
The Argentinian coach is a cult figure to the Atletico fans having guided the team to the 2013-14 La Liga title, along with their 2012 Europa League triumph. Simeone, 46, has also guided the team to two Champions League finals.
With a glowing resume, Simeone has attracted the eyeballs of some of Europe’s top clubs but has insisted that he will never make the move across town.
“I will never coach Real Madrid,” Simeone told Onda Cero. “It is logical because of feelings. They wouldn’t call me either.
“I am young, maybe someday I will lead another Spanish team.”
As for his aspirations, Simeone revealed that his dream is to manage the Argentina national team before calling it a day.
“At some point, I would like to coach Argentina, but I have to improve as a coach,” he added.
“I would like to do it in the final stretch of my career.”
