Four years ago, Margaret found herself staring at the blue gates of the Osu Junior Girls Correctional Center. Lost, confused and frightened, the 12-year-old girl who had lived in Swedru all her life couldn’t believe that the compound within the blue and white walls will be her home for the next 1,095 days. She had reserved her place at the center when she stole another woman’s baby.

Margaret is among many young girls who make it to the Osu Junior Girls Correctional Center each year. It’s the only one in Ghana’s capital – Accra – dedicated towards the arduous task of shaping the lives of children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 18.
