A 36-year-old woman from Kumasi, Ashanti region, has been arrested at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in Cape Coast after she attempted to smuggle dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp into the facility.

Felicia Asamoah, allegedly attempted to smuggle the substance which were hidden in the sole of two pairs of slippers to Kwame Adu, an inmate at the facility serving a 65-year jail term with hard labour.

She was arrested Wednesday, March 29, after a thorough search on the slippers she was delivering to the inmate.

Security officers at the facility noticed the sole of the slippers had been tampered with and decided to carry out a thorough search. The Security officers cut open the slippers and found quantities of the substance embedded in them.

After interrogation, Asamoah claimed that she was sent by her husband, George Kumah who is a brother to the inmate.

ASP. Daniel Machator, Central regional Police PRO of the Ghana Prisons Service who confirmed the story to Starrfmonline.com said Madam Asamoah has since been handed over to the Elmina Police to assist with investigations.
