Databank Foundation, the charitable wing of Databank Group, has recognised and awarded university graduates for their leadership accomplishments during their undergraduate years.

The recognition was  made  during the Databank Leadership and Excellence Awards held on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

The Foundation, which has so far established the Leadership and Excellence Awards in seven universities, identifies one leader from each University’s graduating class every year.

For the first half of 2017, five out of seven winners were awarded. Winners of this year’s awards were Abubakar Ishaq Zico Newton from the African University College of Communication, Victor Adenle Olusola from Pentecost University College, God’sgift Ogbuji Friday from Central University College, Priscilla Naa Temeley Nartey from the University of Ghana School of Medicine & Dentistry and Godwin Kusi Danquah from the University of Education, Winneba.

As part of winning awards, the five candidates are required to embark on projects to make an impact in the society. Their projects range from reading and writing camps in Madina-Zongo, leadership and entrepreneurial initiatives in Nigeria, career development programmes in Ghanaian senior high schools, awareness creation on post-partum depression in Ghana and a door-to-door library project to promote reading, writing and computer literacy among young people in Winneba.

The winners were awarded with investment vouchers of GHC 1,000. To bring the various projects to life, 50% of each voucher will be used to fund their project ideas. The remaining two winners will be awarded in the second half the year after they graduate.

Speaking at the ceremony, the CEO of Databank Group, Kojo Addae-Mensah explained that Databank is very excited to support young, great minds in their zeal to bring solutions to problems identified in their various communities.

The occasion was graced by the Registrars of Pentecost University College, Central University College and University of Education, Winneba. Also present were Prof. Frederick Rodrigues, Dean for the School of Applied Sciences, Central University College; Mr. Amanfo, Chairman, Amanfo Committee, Central University College; Mr. Kobina Mantey, Acting Academic Registrar, African University College of Communication and Amma Koranteng Ansah, Board member, Databank Foundation.
