The VGMA artiste of the year, Joe Mettle, has said he is not perturbed by comments that he did not deserve the artiste of the year award at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
The ‘Owanwani’ singer has come under a barrage of criticisms after being adjudged artiste of the year, but in an interview with Anita Erskine and Giovanni on Starr Drive Mettle said he is not bothered by the attacks.
“I am one person; I try not to allow certain things to influence my path, I’m still who I am, certain things don’t really bother me like that, you need people like that, you can ignore. You will always have people like that and I think there is more to be done than what we have done, so if it was two times it has to be more than that so that those who never heard my songs will hear it more”
He further added that he was overwhelmed with so much love from his fans and the gospel fraternity.
“That force had a lot of influence in this win, the fact that the whole gospel community was behind me and it was beyond me and the whole push was beyond the fact that it was just Joe Mettle, it was a gospel thing…it was a Christian thing and the support from the church was something else. I had told someone that if we had not won the night the love alone was too much”.
Joe Mettle beat E.L, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, MzVee, and Medikal to win the Overall Artiste of the Year. The ‘Onwanwani’ hit singer also beat Ogya Mensah, Afriyie, Akwaboah, Sonnie Badu, and Ernest Opoku to win the Best Male Vocalist of the Year award.
