Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu, has said there is the need for attitudinal change to ensure that the special initiative project, initiated by the ruling government, would yield the needed results.

“I am afraid if people do not change and let patriotism be the hallmark, then the objective for establishing the One District One Dam, and One Factory project would get no further”.

Mr Afenyo-Markin said this during the launch of the Entrepreneurship Certificate Programme initiated by Perez University College at Gomoa Pomadze near Winneba.

The theme for the event was: “Reducing Unemployment in Ghana through Entrepreneurship”.

He said previous governments initiated various programmes to help improve the livelihood of the citizenry but erroneous perceptions held by some stakeholders led to the collapse of such initiatives.

Bishop Charles Agyinasare, the guest speaker, said entrepreneurship is one of the key components  to reduce poverty in the society.

He urged people who are already in the sector to enroll at the college to learn how to manage and grow their business. Again he urged  the unemployed to also enroll to acquire some vocational skills.

Bishop Agyinasare said quite often many businesses begin on a good note but along the line it stalls due to the action or in actions of the entrepreneur and by acquiring the needed training at the University College, one would gain the skills needed to transform their business and the entire society.

Reverend Professor J. Owusu-Sekyere, Rector of Perez University College, said as an entrepreneurial University College, it is their intention to inculcate in individuals the skills needed to identify opportunities and make the best of it.

We are ready to work with the municipal and district assemblies in our catchment area in this direction to help grow the local economy, Prof Owusu-Sekyere said.

Nana Apata Kofi V, Chief of Gomoa Pomadze, who chaired the event, and Mr Afenyo-Markin launched the programme and later cut a tape to inaugurate the University’s Entrepreneurial Skill Development Training Project.
