Internationally acclaimed young Ghanaian actor, Abraham Attah has been unveiled by the Education Ministry as the ambassador for the NPP government’s Free Senior High School programme.
15-year-old Attah, who played a starring role in Netflix’ 2015 hit movie ‘Beasts of No Nation’ was unveiled on Thursday, June 22, 2017 by the Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh at a short ceremony.
The Free SHS education programme has been the flagship policy of the Akufo-Addo led government in the run up to the 2012 and 2016 elections.
The NPP government has promised that the free SHS programme will kick off in September this year.
The President in an address at the Okuapeman School in the Eastern region in February this year said “By free SHS, we mean that, in addition to tuition which is already free, there will be no admission fees, no library fees, no science centre fees, no computer lab fees, no examination fees, no utility fees; there will be free textbooks, free boarding, and free meals, and day students will get a meal at school for free.”
Attah was awarded the Marcello Mastroianni’s Best Young Actor Award at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival for his role in the Beasts of No Nation.
In 2016, it was announced that he had been cast in the upcoming Marvel film Spider-Man: Homecoming.
