The police in the Ashanti region have paraded five suspects who were arrested for robbing a small-scale mining site at Moseaso in the Nkawie district of the region.
The five were identified as Gyimah Richard, 17, Abdul Rashid, 20, and Zakari Salifu, 18 Selasi Cletus, 21, and Samuel Owusu, 20.
They were arrested by the Nkawie Police Command on Friday June 2, 2017 after a worker from the mining company reported that seven young men wearing hoods and wielding two pump action guns attacked and robbed them of an unknown value of their black gold concentrate.
The suspects, according to the police, attacked and robbed their victims who were on their way to the site and bolted through Essouwin-Dotwi forest.
Addressing a news conference Monday, Ashanti regional police commander DCOP Ken Yeboah said Rashid confessed in his caution statement that one of his accomplices, Gyimah Richard, a worker at the company, contracted them to rob his colleague miners.
He said the five are in police custody assisting in investigations.
