The Ghana Education Service has closed down indefinitely three schools at Akyem Adjobue in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern region.

The schools – Adjobue GCD L/A, Adjobue RC Primary and JHS and Adjobue Presby Primary and JHS – were all closed down after some unscrupulous people in the town turned them into ‘public toilets.’

For several years, the school pupils and teachers have been scrubbing and washing human excreta of the perpetrators affecting education. The unknown faces usually defecate on the furniture of the pupils and teachers and smear the blackboards with the fecal matter.

Madam Okyere Asabea, the Public Relations Officer of the Akyemansa District Education Directorate told Starr News the management took the ‘hard’ decision after several attempts by the Ghana Education Service to halt the development failed.

According to her, the situation has lingered on for well over two years despite durbars held with the chiefs and the people of the town.

“Management therefore took the decision to close down the school to let the people know that our teachers there are also human beings and they have had enough,” Asabea opined.

She said the schools will remain shut “until they desist from the act.”
