The Youth of Alavanyo in the Volta region are calling on the security agencies to conduct a thorough investigations into recent killings in the area.
The Alavanyo community has in the past weeks recorded gruesome killing of three persons in what is believed to be a resurgence in the age old land conflict between them and their Nkonya neighbours.
The latest of the killings occurred last week when a 35-year old man was gunned down by unknown assailants at Alavanyo Dzogbedze.
At a press conference on Saturday, the Alavanyo Youth Association urged the security apparatus to investigate and apprehend the miscreants behind the killings and not to link it to the perceived land dispute between Alavanyos and Nkonyas.
“We want the whole world to know that, the lawless killings are purely criminal acts and we call on the Regional Security Council and the Peace council to launch another of phase investigations into the killings of these innocent Ghanaians,” the group stated in the statement read by its Secretary, Richard Kitsi.
He noted that, there is no existence of land dispute between the people of Alavanyo and Nkonya as widely portrayed over the years.
“We want everyone to know that, there is no land dispute between us [Alavanyo and Nkonya traditional areas]. But rather, [the dispute is] between some individual families from Nkonya Tayi and Alavanyo Kpeme.
