The ruling New Patriotic Party has decried the chaos being witnessed in the party in Savelugu in the Northern region following president Akufo-Addo’s appointment of Hajia Aishetu Seidu as Municipal Chief Executive of the area.
Hajia Aishetu was confirmed as the MCE for the area last month amidst tensions.
The situation degenerated Thursday 15 June as three people suffered severe injuries after irate youth against Hajia Aishetu’s appointment violently locked up the Assembly office in the area.
Starr News’ Northern region correspondent, Eliasu Tanko said several gun shots were fired by the Police to disperse the irate youth who were bent on preventing the MCE from starting her work.
A police officer who refused to come out from the building was locked up inside the Assembly office until police and a military reinforcement arrived.
Condemning the development Friday on Morning Starr, a member of the NPP’s communication team, Ibrahim Adjei described the actions of the youth as incomprehensible.
“We should not tolerate this indiscipline amongst anybody. We are a democratic state and we adhere to the principles of that, the pillars of democracy. Let democracy work. And for want of a better word I would use I can’t understand…I can’t even appreciate the stance they have taken. To what extent can you extrapolate their actions and paste it to another event,” he told Morning Starr host Francis Abban.
