Government is appealing to the public to donate relief items as it prepares to offer support to Sierra Leone following the massive flood and mudslide that has claimed scores of lives there.
Over 300 victims of the deadly accident have been buried by the Sierra Leonean government while some 600 individuals are also reported missing.
President Akufo-Addo is among many other world leaders and agencies who have responded to calls by President Ernest Bai Koromafor support as the disaster has overwhelmed his nation.
Akufo-Addo on Thursday tweeted “Government is in the process of sending relief items to Sierra Leone to aid in the recovery process”.
Consequently, the foreign affairs ministry in a statement urged the public to “’under the auspices of the government of Ghana, the ministry of foreign affairs and regional integration is appealing for items in the form of medical supplies, financial support, food items and any other support on behalf of victims of the Hrilidslide and flood that occurred in Sierra Leone on Monday, 14n August 2017. Which resulted in the loss of many lives and left many more without shelter.
“Interested individuals and organizations are kindly requested to deposit the items at the secretariat of the information and public affairs bureau of the ministry of foreign affairs and regional integration from Thursday. 17′ August to Friday, 18th August between the hours of 8:00 am and 55:00 pm.Cheques may be written to the chief director, ministry of foreign affairs and regional integration”
