Government has expressed gratitude to the citizenry for their assistance in activities for the funeral and burial rites of the former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.

In a statement signed by Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, government applauded the efforts of the citizenry and members of the international community throughout the three-day funeral rites held in honor of the global icon.

“In particular, we acknowledge the security agencies, protocol officers, traditional rulers, the media and members of the Ghanaian and international communities”, the statement said.

The statement also urged Ghanaians to uphold the values exhibited by the former UN Secretary General while he lived.

“It is our hope that the values exhibited by the former UN Secretary General, which include excellence, humility and peace will become subjects of our attention in the aftermath of his passing.”

On August 18, 2018, the world was saddened by the news of the death of Mr. Annan, who was the seventh Secretary General of the United Nations.

The final funeral rites for Mr.  Annan held on 13th September 2018 in Accra brought together leaders from the world over to pay their last respects to the world icon.
