A police officer is under strict custody after suspected robbers burgled the police station in Daboya in the Northern Region and stole unspecified weapons including an Ak47 riffle.

The police Regional Command has confirmed the incident, which occurred on Saturday night, and said a short gun is among the weapons taken by the suspects.

Regional spokesman, DSP Mohammed Y. Tanko revealed that an officer has been arrested and assisting investigations. He said the officer has been questioned by the regional police commander himself as part of the investigations.

He said the officer interdicted is being questioned because he was on duty on the night of the attack. The police are now “trying to ascertain” whether this officer committed any offense leading to this robbery.

“Investigation is underway to establish the circumstances under which, whether the duty man who was there was asleep, whether he didn’t go at all or whether he left briefly and it happened in his absence”, DSP Tanko told Starr News.

This is not the first time suspected robbers have successfully carried out operation in the police station. According to some residents, a several motorbikes were parked at the station were stolen.
