Congregants of Bethel Society of the Methodist Church, Ghana, in Koforidua Anlo Town were on Sunday Morning shocked when huge quantities of dried substances suspected to be marijuana were found hidden in the corner of the Church.
The substance which was concealed in a fertilizer and Polythene bags was found covered with a discarded banner of the Church.
Starr News Eastern Regional Correspondent, Kojo Ansah, who visited the Church reports that leaders of the local Congregation reported the incident to the Police after which investigators came to the scene and after taking inventory, set the substance on fire at the church premises.
Suspected criminals have taken advantage of the uncompleted state of the Church building as a hide out for smoking and nefarious activities.
Joseph Asiam-Steward of Bethel Society of the Methodist Church-Koforidua Anlo Town Circuit said sometimes the Church members keep vigil to lay ambush in attempt to arrest the perpetrators but they do not succeed.
According to him, today’s incident has come as a shock considering the large quantity of Marijuana found in their church.
He said the Church leadership is considering hiring a private security to guard the facility while the Church mobilize funds to complete the building.
Meanwhile, the New Juaben Police has begun investigations into the matter.
