The Black Stars will pocket $10,000 as winning bonus following their 1-0 victory over Kenya in the final match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday evening.

Prior to the dead-rubber encounter, Ghana president Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo vetoed after a meeting with skipper Asamoah Gyan and his deputy Andre Ayew at the Jubilee House.

The move was to motivate the players to win the tournament and end the country’s wait for a continental title since 1982-where the fourth title was clinched in Libya.

It took the four-time Africa champions 83 minutes to break the East African side.

A dream goal for debuting striker Caleb Ekuban proved crucial as it handed the Black Stars all three points at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The result sees Ghana finish the series as group winners, two and eight points above the Harambee Stars and Ethiopia respectively.

Ghana and Kenya both secured qualification tickets for the final tournament in Egypt before Saturday’s game.
