Union Oil Ghana Limited on Wednesday launched its tenth anniversary with a pledge to work tirelessly to provide unrivalled services in the country’s oil marketing sector.

“The road to ten years has not been easy. The beginning of this journey was filled with so much glimmer and hope as we found ourselves amongst the top five OMCs within the first five years,” the Managing Director of Union Oil, Charles Obeng-Mensah said at the launch of the anniversary.

A veteran of the downstream oil sector, Mr Obeng-Mensah continued “even though it has been tough and tiresome, it has been very rewarding and we thank almighty God for that.”

He said Union Oil’s major target for the future will be the ability to provide Ghanaians best service. “In short, we intend to strive forward to achieve excellence. I believe that within the next ten years when our children are of age, we will be more knowledgeable and courageous to tell them that we strived, we made efforts and we persisted for the life our company.”

Delivering the key note address, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs), Kwaku Agyeman-Duah said it is a matter of great pride to see an indigenous Oil Marketing company growing, embracing good value system and achieving its vision statement.

He said the volume of petroleum products lifted by Union Oil yearly averages at 19,302,834.48 litres for petrol, 20,442,445.8 litres for diesel and 807,408 litres for premix constituting a total market share of 0.87%.

Touching on the challenges facing the downstream oil sector as the AOMCs mark its sixteenth year anniversary, Mr Agyeman-Duah bemoaned what he says is the insanity plaguing the sector.
