The national chief imam Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu on Easter Sunday joined members of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra to worship ahead of his 100th birthday.

He used the occasion to appeal for peace in Ghana and religious tolerance.

The Parish Priest Father Andrew Campbell presented him with a bouquet of flowers and gifts to mark his centennial celebrations.

Ghanaians on social media lauded the initiative.

Sheikh Sharubutu was born on April 23, 1919.

On Tuesday, April 23, a public lecture would be held to honour the Chief Imam, which would be delivered by Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, the United Nations General Secretary’s Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel.

It will be held on the theme: “Advancement of Modern Ghanaian Society through Peace, Tolerance and Development.”
