Resident of Ahinkwa, a farming community in the Yilo Krobo Municipality
have been compelled to convert a classroom in Ahinkwa M/A Junior High School into a CHPS Compound in their desperation to have access to healthcare services.

The Ahinkwa CHPS Compound serve at least four farming communities with total population of over 2000 inhabitants.

The facility is not only faced with inconvenient operating center but also inadequate basic medical supplies tools and human resources as only one health worker posted to the community.

The Sustainable Development Goal 3 enjoins countries to ensure healthy lives and Promote Well-being for all at all ages by 2030.

This target includes reduction of maternal mortality, end preventable deaths of newborns and Children under 5,end epidermic of AIDS, tuberculosis Malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat waterborne diseases among others.

These however cannot be achieved without effective primary healthcare system.

Ghana Health Service Community Based -Health and Planning Services (CHPS) was supposed to provided the efficient and quality primary healthcare for rural communities in particular however this cannot be said about the CHPS Compound located at Ahinkwa Community operating in a JHS Classroom for the past two year after a landlord ejected Nurses from a rented facility .

The location of the CHPS compound in the school premises makes it difficult for patients to have privacy.

Christiana Batsa Assembly Member for the area told Starr News the situation is worrying.

“there is nothing like privacy here because this is a classroom and we have students in the same premises so when you come to clinic whatever you do the student see so it is a worry to us .This Clinic serve four communities ”

Due the infringement of patients privacy, Pregnant women and teenager girls are reluctant to attend antenatal at the CHPS compound.

Ironically ,While patients complain of their privacy infringement ,students also complain of distraction by patients particularly babies during Postnatal Services .

The sad aspect of it is that, a modern CHPS project and Nurses quarters started in 2016 by then government which is about 80% complete has been abandoned in the bush .

The Chief of the community, Dademankye Opey -Kwabena appealed to Central government and the Yilo Krobo Assembly to urgently complete the stalled CHPS Project and Nurses -accomodation to help deliver quality primary healthcare to the people.
