Algeria scored twice in the first half to secure an important 2-0 victory against Kenya in the first fixture of Group C.

The game got off to a slow start as Algeria were awarded a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. Baghdad Bounedjah sent the ball home from the spot to take the lead for the Desert Warriors.

Ten minutes later, Ismael Bennacer went up the left flank and send an accurate ground cross towards Riyad Mahrez, whose shot left the goalkeeper helpless after it got deflected off Aboud Omar.

Algeria continued to dominate position in the second half, however, they failed to create dangerous chances until the referee blew the fulltime whistle, ending the game as a 2-0 for Algeria.

The win takes Algeria to Group C’s top spot with three points ahead of their anticipated game against Senegal, meanwhile, Kenya occupy the third spot with no points before facing Tanzania on the 27th of June.
