The Assin District Police Commander ASP Isaac Tetteh, has called on the public to stop attacking security officers whose duty it is to protect them.

According to him, the continuous attacks on security officers will only end up demoralising the security personnel in swiftly attending to security situations in such areas knowing well the community could turn on them.

He indicated that the populace must be educated on the dangers in taking the law into their own hands especially in attacking the very security personnel whose mandate it is to protect them.

ASP Tetteh said the continuous attacks on the men in uniform will only result in poor security as criminals will take advantage of the absence of the police in such places to perpetrate their activities to the disadvantage of the community.

Speaking to Starr News’ Central regional corespondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour after he was attacked by some residents of Assin Dansami in an attempt to restore calm following a disagreement between officials of Ghana Water Company and some persons in the area, ASP Isaac Tetteh explained that the media must lead a serious crusade against such attacks as it is unhealthy for security promotion in the country.

He indicated that the public should rather support the police to protect them and not put impediments in the way of the police as they discharge their duties.
