Black Stars forward Kwabena Owusu has revealed that the entire playing body of the senior national team received an appearance fee of $20, 000 prior to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt.

His claims are contrary to reports that each player received an amount of $80,000 as appearance fee for the tournament.

The Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, addressing Parliament last week on the budget for the tournament revealed that the players – 23 of them – were given a total of $965, 405, working out to $41,974 for each player.

The technical team, made up of the coach and his assistants were given $347,027 in winning bonuses.

A group labelled as “additional technical staff” were also paid $177,000 in winning bonuses.

The Sports Minister revealed that an amount of $6,365,033.84 was budgeted for the Black Stars, out of which $4, 564, 352.00 was spent from the team’s training tour to their Round of 16 exit.

This also included expenses of $1,143,519 on accommodation and $41,750 on match tickets.

Speaking to Henry Asante on Starr FM Saturday, the Leganes Forward said they signed for only $20, 000 as appearance fees in Dubai.

“We were given $20, 000 and not $80, 000, they know…because I went with the captain [Asamoah Gyan],” Owusu said adding he noticed all his players were given the same amount.
