Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has taken responsibility for the team’s failure to achieve the target of winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana crashed out on the ongoing tournament in Egypt after losing 5-4 on penalties to Tunisia at the round 16 stage Monday night.

Speaking to Starr Sports after the game, skipper Ayew admitted the team failed woefully in their quest and he is hoping Ghana come back stronger in the next edition.

“I am very sad and disappointed that we could not get to the next stage but we need to take heart and be stronger. The entire team gave everything but it did not go away.

“As a Ghanaian and as a leader no player is to be held responsible for this; I take all the responsibilities and we are going to work hard and come back stronger.

“If we have been kicked out at this stage it means we had a bad tournament and since we couldn’t achieve the mission we came here for, I will say we failed,” he noted.

Tunisia will face Madagascar in the quarterfinals on July 11.
