Legal practitioner Samson Lardi Anyenini says he has withdrawn his service for one of the modern journalists who were picked up from their office and detained by  national security officials.

It comes after the journalist, Britwum, recanted his testimony before the police now claiming, through another lawyer, that he was not abused while in detention.

In a statement, Mr. Anyenini said he was convinced to take up the case because Mr. Britwum repeatedly answered in the affirmative when he asked him about the assault in detention.

On Wednesday, the lawyer noted the National Security was an expedition for basis to prosecute the journalists after abusing their rights.

“They are now on fishing expedition trying to find something. They were questioned over those publications and who the author was. They had perceived they had written those articles under pseudo names,” he told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Wednesday.

Emmanuel Abugri, and editor at modern Ghana,  who was released on Saturday 29 June 2019 said they were tortured and beaten by National Security operatives while in detention following a raid of their office and their subsequent arrest. Abugri and his colleague were arrested for “engaging in cyber-crimes.”

“When we were picked up, we were taken to a place for questioning. When it so happens that my answers were unfavourable to them, I was slapped. I was slapped severally,” he told Morning Starr Host Francis Abban on Tuesday.
