Ghana’s Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has acknowledged Starr1035FM’s contribution to deepening Ghana’s democracy when he joined the management of the station to launch its five-year anniversary celebration.

Speaking at the launch at the forecourt of the Meridian House on Monday, he urged staff and management of the station to keep dreaming, learn and deliver in order not to be overtaken by times.

“I just want to remind you of about three things that I know have brought you this far and encourage you that as you are going forward don’t leave those three things behind,” and they are —Dreaming, Delivering and learning.

According to Oppong Nkrumah, who is a former broadcaster and Member of Parliament for Offoase Ayirebi, “This [Starr FM] is a product of a dream. It was the dream that brought you this far and if you are tempted to think that because you have come this far you can stop dreaming the times will overtake you.”

“You have got to deliver,” he continued. “Don’t come back telling stories and giving explanations as to why things didn’t get done. Deliver!”

He said one of the things that have worked “for you over the years is that you have the humility to learn, to learn from your little slips, to learn from new learnings in the market and I want to encourage you that no matter how big your brand gets don’t lose the humility to learn.

“It is what will give you the ability to acquire new skills, new attributes, develop new opportunities that will get you very far. So today as you celebrate your fifth anniversary, the government of Ghana would like to congratulate you and say keep dreaming, keep delivering and keep learning.

On his part, the CEO of EIB Network, Nathan Anokye-Adisi otherwise known as Bola Ray said Starr FM in its short existence has “competently contributors in moulding the media landscape in Ghana.”

That, he said had been possible through strong, visionary and diligent leadership, the creativity of staff, uprightness of content and loyal clients.

Quoting portions of the Bible, Anokye-Adisi declared: “It is the year of grace. Five represents grace, five is the number of grace and we have received grace upon grace. The fifth-year is our year of grace.”

He said when Starr FM started five years earlier many did not give it a chance to the extent that requests to play adverts for some of the big companies in the country free were turned down.

“It was very difficult,” he recounted “and we went down our heartbroken but we persevered and kept pushing and knocked and two months…later many of the telcos and great churches signed up with us.

“This is a testimony that once you persevere, once you pushed, once you don’t give up you would move on. So, as we chocked five many didn’t give us the chance to move on, to go beyond a year but through the grace of God here we are.”

He thanked the staff for their steadfastness and commitment in ensuring Starr FM continuous to inform, entertain and educate Ghanaians.

“We couldn’t have done without you. Many joined us, many have left but here we are soldering on,” he said. “All we can say is that thank you for your dedication, for your hard work and you zeal this past five years. I must say with pride that input from every single one of you has been valuable for the growth and wellbeing of our great company.”

“We have earned the reputation as a trusted media house and to the glory of God I salute all of these and we want our reputation of excellence to spread globally.”
