Preliminary investigation by the Asesewa District Police Command into the missing Service AK47 rifle and 20 ammunition reveals that the suspect Police Officer did not report at his guard duty post on the fateful day.

Lance Corporal Roland Abovi currently on remand was not able to account for the missing firearm and ammunition he took for night guard duty at the residence of the District Chief Executive for Upper Manya.

On September 4,2019, the station officer at Asesewa Police Station, Raymond Gagbui noticed that the suspect Police officer had not returned the weapon and ammunition he took for night duty the previous day compelling him to approach the officer in his house in an attempt to retrieve the weapon.

The Police officer later returned to the Police station to inform the District Commander that the Rifle and ammunition have gone missing.

The District Police Commander Superintendent Boakye Ansah immediately ordered for his arrest and detention.

Preliminary investigation conducted by the District Commander indicates that the suspect Police officer did not report at the DCE’s bungalow where he was supposed to guard on that fateful night, rather he reportedly drove in his Private BMW car with registration number AE 7108-14 towards the Koforidua to Asesewa road around 9pm, his colleagues at night duty at the check point on the road have confirmed to the investigation body.
