Local governance expert George Kyei Baffour says the call by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the withdrawal of the bill seeking to have parties partake in district level elections is belated

According to Mr. Kyei Baffour, the bill was sent to parliament and council of state and the NDC was part of the whole processes.

“I don’t understand why at this stage where we have barely six weeks to go for the election that they want government to withdraw the bill,” he told Starr News.

He also questioned the silence of the party during the consultative processes which culminated into the current bill.

The opposition NDC at a news conference Tuesday asked government to put the upcoming national referendum on hold to allow for further consultations on the proposed amendments to the 1992 constitution.

They further threatened to campaign for a “NO” vote should their demands not be heard.
