Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu

The Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has submitted documentary evidence to support the Attorney General to retrieve some 47 million Euros judgement debt wrongfully paid to Waterville Holdings over the construction of stadia for the CAN 2008 tournament.

The Special Prosecutor, Martin Alamisi Amidu, in his capacity as a private citizen has dragged the Attorney General and construction firm, Waterville, to the Supreme Court over the non-enforcement of a judgement debt retrieval order directed at the Government of Ghana and the company in 2013.

But on October 16, 2019, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court presided over by Justice Baffoe Bonnie directed the Special Prosecutor Martin Alamisi Amidu and the Attorney General to collaborate effectively to retrieve monies paid to Waterville.

It was the case of the court that the orders made earlier are coercive enough and same orders cannot be repeated. The court has however directed both parties to collaborate effectively on how to retrieve the money.

Contrary to Mr Amidu saying to the Apex Court that it would be “suicidal to give” such documents to the AG, he has gone back on his own words and on Tuesday filed at the Registry of the Supreme Court a 15-page documentary evidence he believed would help retrieve the money to the state.

The parties are expected in court on November 6.
