The Ghana-Lebanon Islamic Schools (GLIS) has held an all-Girls Robotic competition for its basic school dubbed GLIS Girls Robotics Raly GHRR.
The pupils competed in Relay Race, Maze and Bowling using the Sphero robots through coding and programing which is an exciting way to introduce girls into the world of STEM.
The competition was put together in partnership with a Fulbright scholar Mr. Zachary Moore from Santa Barbara, California, a STEM Director who worked with the pupils and STEM club director Ms. Asmau Ayub, who doubles as the school counselor.
The competition also provided the Junior STEM club of the Junior Secondary an opportunity to mentor the younger ones.
In attendance to observe the event was Ms. Maya Parker, who is the Cultural Affairs Specialist and Ms. Aisha Nartey, the Cultural Affairs Assistant from the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy.
The school is set to support STEM education in younger children as it is set to open a STEM center in the school to support this agenda.
The top three teams were awarded medals and hampers from the embassy and all 59 participants received assorted gift items from the embassy.
