An Assembly Member contesting the Presiding Member position of Akuapem North Municipal Assembly has been robbed by gunmen who also set his car ablaze.

Starr News gathered that, the Victim – Asiedu Offei – popularly known as “No Size” a Road and Building contractor was driving towards Koforidua using the Amamprobi bypass road in Akropong at around 11:30 pm when three men – two wearing face masks while the other wielding a gun – suddenly emerged and ordered him to stop.

The robbers at gunpoint ordered him to show where his money was in the car which he obliged. The robbers walked him out of the vehicle after taking thousands of Ghana cedis and  US dollars he had cashed from the bank for a project and set fire into his Volvo car with registration number ER 2-17.

Asiedu Offei – Assembly Member for Mpenease Electoral Area went to the police station traumatized to lodge an official complaint upon which crime scene investigators were dispatched to the scene with him where the car was seen in flames.

The Night Patrol team combed the area but were not successful in arresting the robbers.

The incident has been linked to the Presiding Membership election. He has received threats for refusing to step down after failed attempts to get a winner.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the incident to Starr News said the police is investigating the incident as a robbery and arson attack.
