Coach Baba Nuhu Mallam has named a squad of 18 for Ghana’s 2020 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier with Liberia this weekend.

The Black Maidens play guests to their Liberian counterparts in an opening leg clash at Antoinette Tubman Stadium, Monrovia on Sunday, March 1.

The Uruguay 2018 Women’s World Cup quarterfinalists begin their quest for another ticket in the African qualifiers from the first round after drawing a bye from the prelims.

Coach Nuhu’s squad includes some notable names from the last Maidens group such as current Ghana Women’s Premier League leading scorer Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah, winger Grace Animah and Bassira Alhassan.

The Black Maidens are expected to depart Accra for Monrovia via the Kotoka International Airport on Friday, February 28.

The team will be hoping for a favorable result on Sunday in order to make the second leg scheduled for a fortnight later a mere formality.

The winner of the Ghana-Liberia tie on aggregate advances to the second and final round to face either Guinea or Nigeria later in April.
