Tottenham forward Son Heung-min could miss the rest of the season after breaking his arm in the first minute of Sunday’s win against Aston Villa – leaving Jose Mourinho with no senior strikers.

Spurs confirmed the news of the injury to Son’s right elbow on Tuesday and said in a statement he will be sidelined for at least “a number of weeks”, but manager Jose Mourinho admitted he was ‘not counting’ on the South Korean again this season.

Mourinho added that the ‘situation couldn’t be worse in terms of options’ in attack and also confirmed he did not believe 18-year-old Troy Parrott was ready – he is already without Harry Kane until at least April and potentially for the rest of the season too.

On Son’s absence, Mourinho said, “Simon (the press officer) found a very nice way to write the statement but if I was to write the statement, I’d write something different.”
