The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr. John Boadu, has charged the Tertiary Students Confederation (TESCON), to work hard to retrain the party in power, ahead of the 2020 general elections.

According to the chief scribe of the NPP, TESCON since its formation in the year 2000, remains a great tool for the party and has made huge impacts in the electoral success of the NPP.

Speaking at the 20th anniversary durbar of TESCON, at the Ho Technical University’s G.M Afeti auditorium, on Tuesday, the General Secretary said, the fraternity was the vehicle on which the party rode to oust the then Jerry John Rawlings’ PNDC/NDC administration in the 2000 elections, a reign that lasted for about for about 19 years; between 1981-2000.

Chronicling the achievements of the TESCON, he noted the efforts of the late Major Courage Quashigah and many others, who worked strategically to prevent the NDC from getting ‘ghost votes’ from the Volta region and parts of the Northern region, using desirous and dedicated youth at the time [TESCON].

He also charged members of the fraternity to marshal themselves ahead of the new voter’s register registration exercise to be conducted by the EC, in ensuring that people register massively and to vote to give four more years to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and the NPP.

“Particularly and at this time, when we have achieved so much with our Free SHS, those in third year, as we speak would not be in school at the time of voting, so it’s up to you TESCON members of the various regions to link up with the youth wing of our party, to be able to track these young ones who have immensely benefited from the visionary leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party, it’s that that would make the difference, and I can assure you,” he said.

He stressed that another four years for the President would enable the party to deliver more on the promises made to Ghanaians.

TESCON until 2000, was only known as the party’s intellectual branch on the various tertiary campuses, refered to as ‘NPP Legon Branch,’ ‘NPP UCC Branch’.

Tuesday’s 20th anniversary durbar was attended by the rank and files of the party, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamadou Bawumia, Ministers of State and other national executives.
