The Member of Parliament (MP), for the Ho Central Constituency, Benjamin Kormla Kpodo has donated some hygiene materials worth GH¢ 16,000 towards the campaign against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The materials which included 25 sets of Veronica buckets, 1,000 pieces of liquid soap and 1,100 pieces of hand sanitisers, was presented to the Volta regional directorate of the Ghana Health Service on Monday, for onward distribution to health facilities, market centres, lorry stations, security agencies among several other institutions.

The MP also presented a cash amount of GH¢5,000 to the directorate to support the buying of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to be distributed among public and private health facilities.

He also indicated that he would from time to time make such presentations to support the Covid-19 pandemic fight.

Mr. Kpodo, however, expressed fear over the insurgence in the use of unapproved routes by recalcitrant motor riders to facilitate the movement of people in and out of the country along the Ghana-Togo border.

He said “We have been informed that Okada boys (motor riders) are smuggling people in and out of the country through unapproved routes. We have 9 official entry points and since the closure of the main entry points, things have gone bad,” he said.

He entreated citizens in the border communities to support the fight with information to clamp down on riders.

“If you’ve information to that effect if you know the riders who are doing this, don’t hesitate to alert the health authorities or even the police or other security agencies so that they can be picked up and be put in isolation,” he urged.

“All these including the closure of churches is done for your own good and so, I urge you all to adhere to the laid down protocols to ensure that we succeed in this fight,” he added.
