The New Patriotic Party in the Western Region has disqualified some five parliamentary aspirants from contesting the April 25 primaries.

The disqualified persons are Fred Kakraba Sam and Bernard Oduro Nyarko both from Takoradi constituency, Joy Jocelyn Andoh, Frimponmaa Ayensu and Lawyer Theophilus Tawiah from Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency

Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan reports that the candidates were disqualified after failing to satisfy requirements demanded by the vetting committee.

Secretary to the Fredick Freduah Anto-led vetting committee, Charles Bissue was tight lipped over the disqualification except to say the official report will be released soon

This means Railway development minister and Essikado-Ketan MP, Joe Ghartey, Catherine Ablema Afeku, Andrew Egya Mercer, George Mireku-Duker from Tarkwa-Nsuaem Barbara Oteng Gyasi Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture minister are all going unopposed.

However, there will be contest in constituencies such as Ahanta West and Kwesimintsim where there will be  fierce battle between the Incumbent Ebenezer Kojo Kum and Kwesi Biney, Joe Mensah and NaCCA Boss Dr Prince Hamidu Armah respectively.

Other areas where there will also be contest include Effia, where the Incumbent Member of Parliament and Deputy Energy Minister Joseph Cudjoe aka Men@Work will come up against Dr Adjoa Kwegyiriba Aggrey, while at Shama, the incumbent, Ato Panford, will face four times defeated aspirant Samuel Erickson Abakah as well as Jomoro where two people are contesting Paul Essien, the incumbent.

At Mpohor the incumbent Alex Agyekum will also face stiff competition from one John Sanie.
