Rihanna has donated $5 million in a bid to help relieve the coronavirus pandemic. The money will be distributed by her nonprofit organisation the Clara Lionel Foundation to various groups who are working to help communities deal with the virus, reports Refinery29.
The singer and businesswoman founded the foundation back in 2012 to honour her late grandparents, with all funds going to health care workers and safety efforts across the Caribbean, Africa and the United States.
The money will be used for accurate testing for COVD-19 and for effective care to patients who test positive for the virus.
“When we first began this year, never could we have imagined how COVID-19 would so dramatically alter our lives,” reads a statement by the foundation.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, this pandemic will affect us all. And for the world’s most vulnerable, the worst may be yet to come.”
“That’s why Clara Lionel Foundation has provided $5 million to the following organisations to immediately mobilise a broad response working with on-the-ground partners that include Direct Relief, Feeding America, Partners in Health, The World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, the International Rescue Committee and others.”

She also plans to donate over $700,000 worth of ventilator equipment to Barbados to help her home country tackle the outbreak.
The star is among numerous celebrities to provide and relief and support, whether entertaining those self-isolating through at home gigs put on by artists such as John Legend, encouraging their followers to stay home like Ashley Graham’s heartfelt message or raising money to help fight the spread of virus like Chiara Ferragni.
