After a successful disinfection exercise of markets and the judiciary, the ministry of education has sought the services of waste management giants Zoomlion to fumigate and disinfect all Senior High Schools as well as Technical and Vocational institutions across the country.

The exercise which was launched on Tuesday will see the company visiting all such schools across the country to ensure total disinfection and fumigation to ensure the schools are free from bedbugs.

Speaking at the launch of the fumigation and disinfection exercise at the Accra Girls Senior High School, Minister of Education Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh said the exercise is not only meant to get rid of rodents or insects but also to ensure the students are free from COVID-19.

Dr. Prempeh said, “this exercise will both public and private institutions and will also cover both day and boarding institutions across the country as well the 28 special basic schools across the country”.

He stressed the seriousness of government towards ensuring that the health needs of students are taken care of.

Dr. Prempeh announced that schools which will be used as isolation or holding centers for suspected cases of corona virus will be thoroughly disinfected before schools resume in order to make them safe for students.

The Minister used the opportunity to encourage the public to practice proper hygiene protocols and try to stay home if they have nothing doing outside their homes.

The bedbug fumigation exercise will see the waste management giants move across the country to ensure the exercise is carried out to the letter.
