Delete Ghana limited has fumigated the newly opened China Mall at Spintex as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
Speaking to Starr News after the fumigation exercise, general manager of Delete Ghana, Kelvin Ansah explained that it was important to ensure that densely populated areas be fumigated regularly to ensure the best of healthy environments.
“It was important for us to go and fumigate the whole place. Since it’s a mall, there are food and pest problems especially when goods and people are constantly coming through to your premises.
“Multiple entry points, densely populated areas, make retail stores inherently vulnerable to infections and pests. So it was imperative for us to go and do it. Right now we are all conscious of our health, so we took much consideration with the fact that we are currently battling with the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.
Delete Ghana is a general cleaning and waste Management Company that specializes in general cleaning, fumigation, and many sanitary services. Ghana has seen its case count for the Coronavirus pandemic rise to 5,753 with 1,460 recoveries.
The waste management company is targeting other shopping malls in the capital in its drive of ensuring hygienic conditions at malls.
“We are hoping to take on the next China mall and then take hold of other malls as well. There is a plan to fumigate other shopping centres in the capital. We are working on it but currently, we want to finish up with the China mall then we proceed to the others in the capital”.
Ghana’s waste management system
Managing director of Delete, touching on the country’s waste management ability decried the poor state of the sector. According to Mr Ansah, Ghana currently still does not have the best of systems in collecting and properly disposing waste. The situation, in his view, has led to parts of the capital being inundated with garbage with major drains choked, becoming the cause of major flooding in the capital and other parts of the country.
To this end, delete Ghana says the introduction of technology will rapidly improve the waste management system in the country. Mr Ansah told Starr News, the company will soon roll out an Uber-like picking of waste from the homes of Ghanaians to ease the process of waste management.
On the recycling of waste materials, Mr Ansah noted that the company is currently in partnership with some firms involved recycling plastic waste materials. He, however, noted that a lot more has to be done in increasing the recycling capacity in the country to begin to deal with the country’s waste management challenge.
