As part of measures to fight Coronavirus, assembly members in the Kwahu West Municipality and Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region are to prevent people from using the Kwahu mountain for fitness walk.

Youth in Kwahu as part of exercising themselves during weekends walk from Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West to Atibie, Obomeng, Obo and Mpraeso in Kwahu South District.

This, according to health expert, is dangerous in the wake of Coronavirus.

Speaking on Agoo fm, Assembly Member for Nsuta Electoral Area, a suburb of Nkawkaw (Kwahu West) and Assembly Member for Obomeng Electoral (Kwahu South) Isaac Kofi Onwona and Eric Oware Agyapong respectively appealed to the youth to put on hold their fitness walks on the mountain until further notice.

According to them, due to the high numbers, the youth cannot practice social or physical distancing adding that the situation is worrying.

“You cannot use nose masks during fitness walk and they are not practising social distancing. We are pleading with them because the exercise could be done at home, you should adhere to call for your own benefits. Since the two Chiefs have been informed, arrest will be made from tomorrow (Saturday) going. We don’t want anyone to be arrested so all must comply with this directive’’ they told host Obaahemaa Yaa Mirekua.

Kwahu West, West Akim, and Suhum are the new Municipalities in Eastern Region that have recorded confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

Nkawkaw, the municipal Capital of Kwahu West has recorded 3 confirmed cases (1 of the patients is from Kumasi) while West Akim and Suhum have recorded a positive case each.
