Joyce Bawa Mogtari speaks for former president John Mahama

Deputy Information Minister Pius Hadzide has described as despicable comments made by special aide to former President John Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, on Ghana’s Covid-19 recoveries.

Madam Mogtari on May 16 took to her twitter page when the GHS announced that 1,460 Covid-19 positives had recovered saying “how the hell did 790 more people recover overnight !! We need to put these numbers to strict proof!!”

According to Mr Hadzide, the recovery of an ill Ghanaian was not a matter of “hell” adding the former deputy minister had a different expectation.

Speaking to Francis Abban on the Mourning Starr Monday, he said “this is a statement expressing disappointment and disappointment is a function of expectation. Was it the expectation that people should rather have died. Is that why we are disappointed that people should rather have died?”

“To be expecting something different for me is quite problematic. My disappointment actually is in the fact that the former president himself has not up till now disavowed that statement.”

The deputy minister was of the view that former President  Mahama should denounce the disappointment.

He said “I would have thought that they would have expressed a certain amount of disappointment at the thought that was expressed by Joyce Bawah Mogtari, lest people will think that Madam Joyce spoke the mind of the former president and that will be dangerous for a man who seeks to lead a country would be wishing ill of the same country that he wishes to lead.

“So my expectation would be that Mr Mahama finds his voice on this matter and to loop in Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari and say it to her that her language was unbecoming and her thought was despicable.”
